At UCSF Surgical Oncology we are are proud to care for patients in a compassionate setting where the patient comes first. Please read the welcome message from the Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Ajay V. Maker, M.D., FACS, FSSO.

The Division of Surgical Oncology is one of the eight divisions in the UCSF Department of Surgery. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing unparalleled patient care, pioneering cutting-edge research, and training the next generation of Surgical Oncology leaders. At high volume cancer surgery centers such as UCSF, operative outcomes are among the best because surgeons have perfected their skills through thousands of operations. Our surgical oncologists have received specialized training in the surgical management of cancer, and patients receive highly coordinated multidisciplinary care from a team that includes surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, nurse practitioners and other health professionals.

Our Division is comprised of the sections of Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, and HPB-GISS, which includes our outstanding clinical programs in Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery, Gastrointestinal Malignancies, Regional therapies (including our programs in Hepatic Artery Infusion Pumps (HAIP) and Cytoreduction with Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)), Minimally-invasive Surgery, Melanoma Surgery, and Soft Tissue Sarcoma surgery. In addition to the surgeon-scientists in the Division, we are very proud of the Division's multiple dedicated research scientists and their laboratories that are investigating novel cancer treatments at the cutting-edge of care.

Our Surgical Oncologists serve in a variety of leadership roles in the world-class NCI-Designated Hellen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCSF Health, the University, the Department of Surgery, and the Operating Rooms across our campuses that include the cutting-edge Bakar Cancer Hospital at Mission Bay, Moffitt Long at Parnassus, the UCSF Medical Center at Mt. Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, the VA of San Francisco, and our centers across the greater Bay Area. In addition, they are guiding their fields through leadership in multiple Cancer and Surgical Societies nationally and internationally.

Together, our team is committed to state-of-the-art surgical excellence in a caring and compassionate setting.
